Wed 28 Sep 2011 Corny Point to Coomandook Rest Area

Giant slide at St Kilda
0930 (20474 km) Had pancakes for breakfast. All the other kids joined in. It had rained overight, so it took a while to pack up as we waited for things to dry up as much as possible. Forecast was for strong winds and thunderstorms for the next few days, so we had decided to depart and head for home.
1045 (20474 km) Left Corny Point.
1140 (20542 km) Minlaton. Filled up.
1345 (20725 km) St Kilda (just north of Adelaide), South Australia. It has an adventure playground with huge flying foxes, swings and slides.  We had found it last year on our drive through, and it is an amazing playground - probably the best hte kids have played in. Had lunch of clix, kransky.
1500 (20756 km) Adelaide. Filled up. Stopped by Hahndorf to do some shopping. HM had to go back to the Smokehouse to purchase some smoked items that she had discovered on our previous trip. Now that we are on the home stretch, we can actually buy some food to take home - there wasn't enough storage/fridge space prior to this.
1800 (20890 km) Coomandook Rest Area. There was a toilet nearby across the road. There was a train line next to us. Had dinner of chili con carne. Overnight, it rained, trains went past and trucks pulled up.

Tue 27 Sep 2011 Corny Point

1000 (20310 km) Had toast and cereal for breakfast.
1100 (20310 km) Went for a drive to the local beach.

Ming Kim 'knee surfing'

Ming Jin all buried in the warm sand
1115 (20316 km) North Berry Beach.  All 5 families - 4 from Park Orchards and a local Corny Pt family (related to one of the Park Orchard family). A few of the mums and lots of kids went braved the cold water and went body surfing. The waves were fantastic - had to be careful as there were rips close by. Others went fishing off the beach with their super long rods and some kids played in the sand. Caught a sand crab on the fishing line.

1330 (20322 km) Went back to caravan park and had lunch of Indomie and whiting.
1500 (20402 km) Wool Bay - about 80 km from Corny Pt, on the 'heel' of Yorke Peninsula. Supposedly a great spot for squidding. Everyone on the jetty was squidding - that was a good sign, and so were the ink stains on the jetty. Yeah! The boys caught 3 squids - decent sized ones too. We are happy now, we've finally caught squids after multiple attempts.

Caught a squid at last!
1845 (20474 km) Back at caravan park to clean squid. Deep fried battered fresh squid is really yummy - well received by all. The other families had caught a few squids too, form a boat. Also had chicken schnitzel.

Mon 26 Sep 2011 Corny Point

1000 (20175 km) Had toast and cereal for breakfast.
1115 (20175 km) Went for a drive to the National Park.

1200 (20227 km) Innes National Park. Fishing and squidding. Some people were catching squid but we didn't catch any. Lunch of sandwiches. Hm went for a walk with the girls along the clifftop.

At the lighthouse
1445 (20233 km) Cape Spencer Lighthouse. There were quartz rocks around that glinted in the sun.

1530 (20245 km) Pandalowie Beach. Some of the beach was washed away. There were lots of sea grass around and not very nice for swimming.

A group of about 18 dolphins swimming nearby while we were bodyboarding
1545 (20250 km) Ethel Wreck/Beach. The wreck was really wrecking down. There wasn't much left. There were about 20 dolphins swimming in the water. It was fascinating watching them surfing on the incoming waves and then leap into the air back into deeper water. There were some surfers on the water the the dolphins just swam around them. We went body boarding and the dolphins came close!
1800 (20310 km) Back at caravan park. Had sausages for dinner.

Sun 25 Sep 2011 Point Lowly Rest Area to Corny Point

0900 (19683 km) Had breakfast of cereal. Went to Whyalla. Stopped at visitor centre and found that our trailer plug was dragging on the road and was in pieces. Went to Repco to get a replacement. Visited the Loaded Dog, which is sculture made up of welded little metal pieces, based on a book by Henry Lawson about a dog that got a stick of dynamite and lit it by running through the campfire and the chaos that ensued.. Hopefully this one would survive the explosion.

Luckily this one doesn't have a life stick of dynamite!
 1145 (19728 km) Filled up.
1430 (19960 km) Port Broughton. Lunch of sandwiches.
1500 (20008 km) Kadina. Filled up.
1700 (20175 km) Corny Point. Corny Point Caravan Park. Site 7. Caught up with a bunch of friends from school at the caravan park. Had Pasta Bolognaise for dinner.
